My name is Áron Szegvári, I graduated from the Faculty of Humanities of the University of West Hungary’s Savaria Campus. I have two diplomas:
-
philologist, specialized in communication – with mass communication specialization
-
certified cultural organizer – with regional development specialization.
I can communicate in English and German.
I have been taking photographs and making videos for 24 years, since I attended secondary school. I obtained my theoretical knowledge at university and started my practical training during my internship years at Göcsej Media and the local television of Zalaegerszeg, the capital of Zala county, and I have also been self-training myself continually since then as an autodidact. My friend, László Major photographer and video film-maker, has also helped me a lot with developing my skills.
Primarily, I consider myself a documentary photographer and film-maker. I travel a lot within Hungary as well as abroad and I try to capture the moments that are important and special for me. I am interested in emergency vehicles (police, fire, ambulance and others), both old and new and I am searching for them constantly. I have been to numerous places at most of which I was kindly helped with my work. Besides that, of course, I am also interested in other subjects, e.g. public transport, nature, exciting everyday moments, constructions and special demolitions, extraordinary buildings, professions of extraordinary people, accidents, fires, building operations and blasts, military technologies and aviation. My favorite subject is the world of Nohab locomotives, as I travelled a lot on them in my childhood. One of my most unique experiences was, when I could make a documentary during an international training about the work of the oil industrial experts who became world famous with their expertise and fire extinguishment technologies in the early 1990-s during the Gulf War in Kuwait. I have been visiting the abandoned ghost towns of the country for some years, and I have taken photographs of their buildings, factories, and monuments, at places, where nobody has lived and worked for many years. I have succeeded in mapping and photographing a lot of such places. The remaining heritage of the 40-year-old socialism with their buildings, symbols, objects and architectural style is also an exciting theme. I want to immortalize places, where time has stopped. I have been tracing the development of public transport vehicles since the mid-1990s, trying to take shots of these once world famous Hungarian products of vehicle manufacturing until it is possible or until they are in service. I feel devoted as I am willing to travel several hundreds of kilometers for an interesting shot – regardless of circumstances.
The pictures and video films which were taken in the 90s and the early 2000s (mainly included in the ’Public transport’ folder) they were made with old machines, that did not match even the minimal parameters of the contemporary technology. This is why there is blur, the objects are often out of focus and the resolution of the pictures and videos is low.
However, as these photos and videos are irreplaceable today, I decided to publish them.
I have captured the construction of Zala Plaza, Tesco and the ’Dél Hercegnője’ (’Princess of the South’); I have also taken photographs of building explosion for blasting technology companies. I have worked for the Blowout Control Team of MOL and I have also been enriching the archives of the police and the rescue services with my photographs. My photos are also published on the policecars.hu website (Zaronka). I followed the ordeal of the infamous Pécsi Magasház (High-rise of Pécs) with a series of photographs and videos, and I was also present at the scenes of the demonstrations and riots that broke out in the autumn of 2006 documenting the most important events.
I have been a member of DUE (National Association of Student Journalists) for several years.
In 2024, I obtained a state-recognized certificate as an art and media photographer.
At the moment I am a freelancer, but I would like to utilize my skills at a workplace where there is a demand and a chance for challenges and for further development of my knowledge.
My main virtues are accuracy, diligence, innovation, and I believe in the principle of life-long learning.
My main works can be found in the My Photographs and My Films menus.
